Politically Incorrect House M.D.

Fox has a new TV show at 9 PM Tuesday night entitled House M.D. about a rather tough, sarcastic, and cutting but brilliant medical doctor working in a hospital solving tough cases. House is played by an incredibly well cast Hugh Lawrie. In one scene (sorry, I can't find the dialog on the web yet) he rips a mother for not giving her young (7 or 8 perhaps?) asthmatic son regular asthma medicine due to her fear of frequent use of drugs. He utters some scornful line about whether oxygen is important and then just walks out of the examination room leaving mother and son there to ponder her foolishness.

I loved some of House's lines so much that even as I watched the show the pessimistic thought came to me that the producers and network will come in for enough criticism and pressure that the show will eventually become more politically correct. House could "grow" to learn how to mouth liberal pieties and the left-liberal media will praise his "growth" like it praises the leftward drift of Republican judges and politicians. The writers could eventually be faced with a much smaller allowed list of targets.

The environment in America today is target rich for a show that wants to let a doctor pour occasional scathing abuse on patients and family members. How about a morbidly obese woman who can't even walk to the kitchen whose husband brings her as much food as she wants? These couples exist and House could rip into a husband who enables his wife's morbid obesity. Will House be allowed to pour scorn on a pregnant junkie who has given birth to multiple babies while using addictive drugs or the legal system that lets her do it? Will he be allowed rip into some HIV positive guy who knew he was positive when he infected some other guy? Or even worse, how about portraying a bisexual HIV positive guy who infected his wife? Or is that all beyond the pale of what Hollywood will do?

Worse, did the producers already decide to make the first show the most politically incorrect and then immediately back off? House skated pretty close to the edge of liberal political correctness in the first episode when he discussed with a young attractive female M.D. whether he hired her for her genetically determined looks or genetically determined intelligence (again, sorry of the lack of dialog but I was too captivated by the show to think I ought to be writing some of it down). I was shocked that I was watching such realism about the human condition on a TV drama. There is a definite strain of Hollywood product that obviously wants the cachet of political incorrectness without the meat of it. Take Bill Maher's show Politically Incorrect. I watched it a number of times and I felt like Clara in that old hamburger commercial saying "Where's the beef?". Will House M.D. become another pseudo-politically incorrect show? I hope not, at least not in the first season anyway.

BTW, if you watched the first episode and thought the kindergarten teacher who was hovering close to death looked familiar she is Robin Tunney who I best remember from the 1996 movie The Craft where she plays a high school witch with Neve Campbell and a couple of other actresses (Rachel True and Fairuza Balk).

For more on House M.D. see Steve Sailer and Colby Cosh.

Update: The second episode had House insulting a mother who won't vaccinate her kid and doing other fun stuff. This show may stay pretty good for a while.

I realize you wrote this post a long time ago but I agree that this show has some real promise. Let's hope it lasts long enough to get an audience.

Sorry, another very late comment. I was very happy to hear it's been picked up for a full season. Here's hoping they don't tinker with it too much!

Where did the program go? I searched each night last week, and could not find it on. And it has not been on thus far this week. Any ideas? I certainly hope it has not been cancelled. It is one of the few programs I will watch.

House M.D. is the best television series ever!! I am almost afraid to like it to much because then it will go away as alot of shows I love do. The sarcastic, intelligent Dr. House is a riot to watch!! This new series better stick around and I hope that, it is and it will get all the recognition it so rightly deserves. These guys have a great thing going in every episode. Educational, informative, mysterious, comedic, and addictive to watch, these guys have got it right. The man is scary intelligent and sarcastic and I love it!

Posted by: Joshua on February 9, 2005 08:12 AM

House is one of the best shows in a long time. How can you not love someone who is so sarcastic and astute yet loves monster truck jams? His line "Gravedigger never fails to deliver." was just right for a fan of those things. Many kudos to what must be a great group of writers. Now I too will sweat that it will either be cancelled or, worse yet, smoothed out to be more mainstream.

I'm so glad there are other House fans out there. I told a couple of my friends about it (and by "told them about it" I mean practically recited line for line) and after one episode, they were as hooked as I was. By the time it was time for their second episode, they were waiting for it and it was all they could talk about that day. We're fearing that Fox will have yet another brain lapse and either take it off the air or turn it into a loving doctor type show. I'm so glad they picked it up for the season and I hope they continue to do so.

I forgot to put this in the last post, but you mentioned there was a lack of dialogue for your article. Anyone who wants some of the dialogue, I wrote down some of the funny lines and I'd be happy to e-mail them to you. Keep in mind, they may not be word for word, because I think the words got a bit mixed up here and there when I was writing them. :-p But just e-mail me if you want them and I'll do my best to get them to you.

best show EVER. I hope it runs for like 10 years like the ER

Posted by: jo on March 11, 2005 03:22 PM

I am totally a House fan too, since episode one. Does anyone remember the Rolling Stones song that way played during the intro for the first episode? I was wondering why it was only used for one (or two, I can't remember) episodes. Did they lose the rights to the song?

Posted by: Theresa on March 15, 2005 10:39 PM

Theresa,

In the episode about the woman CEO with heart failure I just loved the use of the Who "Teenage Wasteland" piece with House acting out playing the keyboards and drums. Keith Moon's drumming was great at his peak.

I also loved House's advice to spend less time reading books and more time watching television.

Anyone else notice that Chi Bridges is now the uber rich billionaire thats funding the hospital. He used to be the principal on Boston Public. Im still holding my breath for Jeri Ryan, Teacher/Borg.

I love this show!!! But does anyone know how many episodes there has been? The last couple of episodes that have been on I haven't seen but someone I know say they're a re-run but I swear I've seen every episode since it premiered. I've anticipated for 9 o'clock to come every Tuesday since the first episode and I don't know how I missed any.

Help. On last night's episode of House, there was this music/song right at the end. House was sitting at his desk, sad about something. Please help with the name of the song, or the artist. Dave Matthews?
Thanks.

It was "Some Devil" by Dave Matthews.

Posted by: Showtime on June 6, 2005 05:04 PM

The theme music from House MD is the intro and ending to "Tear Drop" by Massive Attack.

Great intro

Posted by: playingHouse on June 15, 2005 10:36 AM

it seems alot different, maybe because it has lyrics, and the intro to house does'nt, it just is'nt right.

Posted by: Shane on August 12, 2005 04:52 AM

You're right Shane, it isn't the same. There are 2 different themes. The 'Teardrop' theme is the one used in America but it is different in the UK. Right now i don't know what it is but want to know, if you ever find out post it on here please =)

Hey,
The theme for House MD in australia, NZ and UK is not Teardrop by Massive attack

I don't know the name of the song, but, it was on a Ministry Of Sound ablum (possibly the '02 annual) - if someone could find out and post the title of it here that would b great!

I just started watching the region one DVD release of House, and the music that plays during the titles is different than what played here in New Zealand (I'm guessing it is the Massive Attack song). The music that plays over the credits doubled as the title music here.

Hugh Lourie on "Ellen Show" 11/3/05 and on Craig Ferguson's Show 11/7/05

Posted by: Loujoe on October 26, 2005 01:18 PM

heres what i can establish. Teardrop by Massive Attack is the US theme. Baba O'Reilly by The Who is the song house is listening to when the executive (can't remember his name) walks in and House is playing drums and piano on his desk. American Dream by Jakatta is in the Australian House, but i don't think it is the main theme. Comments Welcome.

In America, the theme IS Tear Drop. In Australia and New Zealand at least, the theme is neither Tear Drop or American Dream, however, American Dream does sometimes feature as background music in the programme itself.

Hey, I live in Aus. and I've been researching the theme tune for House. Everyone seems to reckon it's Teardrop in the US and American Dream over here. It's not American Dream. It's Teardrop over here as well, they've changed it so it's fairly different to the original but you can still tell that it's Teardrop. It most certainly is not American Dream.

P.S If anyone needs the house aus/uk theme, just e-mail me and i'll send it to you, it's quiet though, as it is obviously a recording, but it's the stuff

Wow you're right Complex, it seems people only read the latest post on the page, and if that doesn't have the answer then they ask their question which has already been answered half a dozen times.

RioMerc, the name of the song you requested has been posted on this one page a number of times already, as has a link to the non-US theme to House. The name of the song you're after is called "Baba O'Reilly". If you want to know who the artist is (no pun intended) you could spend a few seconds reading the other posts on this page. Who knows (again, no pun intended), you might learn more interesting things about the programme while you're at it.

Your wayward song is also the theme to CSI: New York.

When I first saw a US bootleg I had assumed that there was something wrong with my audio since the intro theme sounded the same as for AU except with the flute removed.

Or perhaps it is more correct to say that the AU theme sounds like teardrop with a flute dubbed over it.

My guess would be that it's from a teardrop remix

Posted by: Dave on November 17, 2005 03:51 PM

I have really enjoyed this show, most of you over in america are a few seasons ahead of us over in australia but i can tell you it has been a huge hit over here too.

I am NOT a tv person at all, in fact i avoid it at all opportunity because i find its all virtually crap but House MD is the ONLY show i watch, which i think in itself says something.

Posted by: Catherine on November 17, 2005 07:08 PM

Yeah, the international theme definitely has similarities to Teardrop, most likely a remix.

What season are they up to in the US? I'm only assuming they're up to season two.

I read all the posts, But I found that there were a few different suggestions towards the name of that song, or atleast, I saw a few different names of songs that weren't precisley titled as to what they were, well, at least I got a straightforward answer..
P.S I know who made the song, The who, who also made the theme song for the orignial CSI

for the sake of completion...

American Dream by Jakatta is the song played sometimes in Ten's PROMOs of house - not part of the show! you can recognise the song by the distinctive perky, xylophone-like sounds.

i rekon the aus/euro theme sounds better, but

and on a final note... bloody channel ten! we have to wait till next year to get our season two! i hate summer programming! :P

Hey guys, I'm from Brazil, and I just want to say that Teardrop "Massive Attack" is the one played here in Brazil, instrumental only.. not one word is said.
And I heard the one that you said that played in Australia, and it's really similar to massive attack, so I guess it's just a different version.

Posted by: Lívia on December 13, 2005 03:42 PM

One person asked what house is in so much pain and what his disability is... this was revealed in one of the final episodes of the first season (and is also a recurring issues in Season 2)...

House had a disease that infected the muscle in his right leg severly. He could either have the leg muscle amputated or attempt treatment. He chose the route of the treatment, whereas his wife at the time wanted him to have the amputation. At one point in the story line, house's wife takes the doctor aside and tells him to do the surgery no matter what house says. Although the surgery is a success, it leaves house extremly crippled and barely able to walk. This causes house's bitter resentment for his wife, evident in both the first and second seasons, and it could also be specualted that her actions have caused the total disregard for rules that house now employs with each new patient.

Also, the first 10 seconds of the song "Teardrop" by Massive Attack are base of the main theme of house.

The uniform "post commercial music" is from the song "American Dream" by Jakatta and is only four to five seconds long.

These two songs are strictly for the American version of the show, I cannot say what other countries use as the theme song.

Hope i could help.

Hey i'm a born and bread Aussie teen, who was just wondering if anyone knew what the name of the song is, that plays at the end of episode 1x08 'Poison', when House and Foreman get into the elevator and look down at their shoes. i looked on a website which said there were no commercial songs used in that episode, but it sounded like a recorded song, not just a musical skit put together for the show.

Does anyone know the name of the song that they play on the commercials in Australia, you hear nothing but piano and it is not the theme song. Its a really cute sounding song. None of this disco drumming stuff.

Im so conufused. Can someone give me a finall complete 100% answer on the opening theme for house.... please :).

Oh and by the way HAPPY NEWYEAR HOUSE FANS!! :).

Posted by: Sqeetum on December 31, 2005 01:47 AM

in reply to Sqeetum, Massive Attack's 'tear drop' is the theme song for the American House, in Aus, it is either a remix or some kind of dubed tear drop, which some people think is actually jakatta's 'American Dreams'. I think that covers most of it but i still need to know the name of the song that is used on channel ten's adds with the cute piano peice.
PLEASE can someone tell me.

the goddamn australian theme is not tear drop at all. If they had licensing isues they wouldn't be able to use it all, even if they cut it to hell and back. Listen to this http://www.nos.net.nz/housetheme.mp3 and tell me its bloody tear drop! ITS NOT! SOMEBODY FIND THE FULL VERSION!

Posted by: Ben on January 1, 2006 01:18 AM

This site is a useful resource for a breakdown of the incidental music and artist by episode:

http://www.have-dog.com/house/

It also refers to 'Teardrop' and Massive Attack for the opening credits, but we've more or less established that outside the US, the music is NOT Teardrop. For those unfamiliar with 'Teardrop', you can download an acoustic version by Jose Gonzalez at this URL:

http://www.audiofordrinking.com/mp3s/Jose.Gonzalez.Teardrop.mp3

To me, the bridge without the vocals, re-arranged and slowed down could pass for the theme music from House, but I think the House theme is actually an original piece. Note the credits at the end of each episode for the music by Jon Ehrlich and Jason Derlatka, who apparently write scores for film and television. There is an article concerning them and work they're doing on a new TV series entitled 'Invasion' at this URL:

http://www.soundtrack.net/news/article/?id=657

I don't know for sure that they are responsible for the opening credits theme, they may just be the blokes who have written the incidental music for House, but I think it's most likely they wrote the main title theme used outside the US also. Anyone else have any ideas?

I agree that the confusion concerning Jakatta may have arisen in Australia through Channel Ten's use of 'American Dreams' to promote the series.

Does anyone know the US ending theme song?? I know the opening theme is Massive Attack - Teardrops, cause I'm listening to it now LOL. But I cant find the name of the ending theme. Anyone?

Posted by: Andrew on January 6, 2006 05:33 PM

The opening theme is "Teardrop" by Massive Attack, although due to rights and licensing issues this music is not used for the show in the UK, Australia, Italy, New Zealand and Latin America which instead use a piece of music named "House", written specifically for the show.

Hope this helps!

Posted by: TD on January 7, 2006 08:37 PM

Andrew, the music used over the credits in America is the same music that is used as the opening theme elsewhere.

I'm a House fan from Australia, and I was wondering if someone could tell me how to get the housetheme (Australian version) as a ringtone on my cellphone.

Thanks

I read that the House theme in AU NZ + UK is called "House" and was made especially for the show due to copyright reasons regarding Teardrop.

House is the best medical show I've seen on tv in yonks. In Australia we've seen the first episode of season 2 I liked the part where House walks into office and finds Cameron sitting there in his chair and they both begin to talk. Cameron really knows how to get pissed off. My first favourite line was (from the show) Cameron:"Its coz of me isn't it? I'm over you, I've jumped on the bandwagon, I hate you okay?" House: "okay. Do 2 more of my clinic hours and then you can do the test" and Cameron nods.

House is now on the USA network on Sunday nights. It is the replay of the first season, starting from the first episode. In the first episode, House reveals the cause of his crippled leg. I didn't catch what he called it, but it was a blockage of blood to the leg. I do remember, however, that he said that if it had occurred in the heart, it would be called a heart attack.
House is doing great in the ratings. Last week,it was the 8th most watched show for the week.
I can't get over some of the things that are done on the show, however -- such as the doctors doing the CAT scans themselves, searching patients' houses, having four diagnosticians working full-time on one case, etc.

Just to clarify in one post...

********
For the US
********

The opening credits theme is a combination of the beginning and very end of "Teardrop" by Massive Attack and was linked to here: http://www.kfcplainfield.com/sound/housemd.mp3

The Who's "Baba O'Riley" IS NOT the theme like ADAM said, however it appears in the episode "Control" before and after Vogler interrupts and has his initial conversation with House.

The underlying melody of Jakatta's "American Dream" (and other similar pieces?) often follow commercials.

The ending credits theme is the piece posted above at this link: http://www.nos.net.nz/housetheme.mp3

If you need to check what songs are called and you can hear it for about 20 seconds... call 2580 (all the bottons down the middle of ur mobile phone) and place your mobile near speakers. It'll cost 50p ONLY if you get a text back saying the title and artist. If they dont know who it is then you dont get charged. im no affiliate but in the UK im always using this

Posted by: Nos on March 13, 2006 04:27 AM

no actually it has nothing to do with any episode its just a classical song that sounds like the teardrop song by massive attack but the song i want is a classical song it sounds different from the ones you guys mention i heard it about 4 years ago, a crazy fact is that everyone wants to know the nameof that song i know a rapper who sampled the song but as i was searching for it i would see other peoples posts searching for it to and they think its the house theme song too apparrently this song is very catchy and not just to me

Posted by: alex flores on March 13, 2006 03:09 PM

sorry let me clarify it does have something to do with the show, but the classical song does sound like the teardrop song, but in the classical song there is a slight difference i do not know the name or the artist

Posted by: alex flores on March 13, 2006 03:16 PM

Heh, this is ridiculous.

Listen carefully to the UK and US theme. The UK theme is in a higher key then the US theme, and has an extra instrument playing, it's essentially an edited version of the US theme, the closest you're going to come to a full version is Teardrop, also, the UK theme doesn't sound any less like Teardrop than the US one.

Much love. Heh, this is ridiculous.

Right, this is getting pretty annoying, so may straighten it out.

Theme Music For house?

US/Aus: Teardrop by Massive Attack

UK: NOT TEARDROP

Series 1: http://www.nos.net.nz/housetheme.mp3

Series 2: http://www.nos.net.nz/HouseSeason2Theme.mp3

Any other bits are irrelevant. The credits say that it was composed by a couple of randoms, so if you want the UK themes then you're just gonna have to wait for them to release the theme music. Otherwise download Teardrop by Massive Attack for the US. Trust me, none of those three are the same, I've seen Massive Attack live and know all their songs off by heart.

personally I may try my own composition based on those two clips, but otherwise, you'll just have to wait until the tune all of you want is released.

NOw thats sorted,

Hey I live in AUS and I keep hearing the song that they have played heaps on the HOUSE promos, it's kind of a rock ballad or sumthing. I've heard it on the ABC promos too, I can only hear fragments of lyrics though "When all the world is falling, a sad voice is calling." -- "Doesn't really matter, when time is so fragile..." -- "Now that I'm waking, somebody's aching..." I don't even know if they are the words but that's what they sound like. Does anyone know what it's called.

"I've uploaded a NZ television promo for the upcoming season 2 of House. Is the music featured on it the same music used for the UK's theme of Season 2?

http://www.nos.net.nz/housepromo.html"

This track I used last year on a Fashion Promo for work so quite surprised to hear it, it's part of the KPM Music library and details are as follows.

KPM 548 - INDIE SESSIONS
Budda Grass Soul
Composed by: Scott Donaldson and Richard Nolan

I have this feeling I will one day bring up the full House theme in my travels when I do I will let this board know.

Posted by: Renee on May 1, 2006 07:30 PM

Thanks for the info, Jo. The promo department of the network that airs House over here in NZ must like that particular production disc, as they've used a number of tracks from it.

Does anyone know if there are two versions of "American Dream"? There seems to be two different versions used in television commercials over here (one with beats of some sort underneath for a coffee commercial, and one with just the piano music for another commercial).

Posted by: Nos on May 4, 2006 02:49 AM

Nos, the one with the beats is Jakatta's 'American dream'.

Which in turn samples Thomas Newmans 'Dead Already' from the film American Beauty (without the beats).

And just to end all tears and woe, the NZ theme mp3 link above IS Teardrop, its parts of the
'Homeless' mix from a MA re-release in 1997, Which was the UK theme, and now Season 2 it is Teardrop (instr) same as episodes on Fox US!!!! so as for a composed piece i dunno?!?

Talking of definate composed pieces.... In UK we all remember the samsung AD that had a definate composed piece that turned up remixed 4 months later in a Baileys AD then in charts another month later.

Be warned websites dont lie they just sway with the majority.

Massive Attack Rules...........

Posted by: DaFix on May 12, 2006 05:01 PM

Thanks NOS for telling me how to get these tunes onto my computer. Now I just have to work out how I can use them as ringtones on my V3i (anybody there with experience?)
And am I imagining this or does it say at the end of each House episode Theme by Massive Attack? Where did all this confusion stem from???
If I was House I'd diagnose mass hysteria...
Thanks again!!

Posted by: cerstin on May 18, 2006 01:24 PM

Just a clarification (I've not seen it cleared up elsewhere on here) --

Stacey was NOT House's wife. They were living together, possibly engaged, before she married the guy she was with in Season 2, but definitely NOT married....

Anyone besides me catch Hugh Laurie on Bravo's "Inside the Actor's Studio" (in North America)? It was AWESOME! His song, "Mystery," had me in hysterics! I just adore Hugh Laurie!

"'House' RULES!" (Pun absolutely intended....)

House theme song!

The theme song to House is an excerpt from the song "Tear Drop" by Massive Attack on the Mezzanine CD.

The song played at the end of the season premiere of House was Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" performed by Jeff Buckley.

Posted by: Donald Cart on September 4, 2006 06:20 AM

Right, I live in the UK and the house season one theme is Teardrop by massive attack without the vocals.

However season two is again teardrop, but it is not the massive attack version, it must be a remix done specifically for the show.

I can safely say whenever I watch house (In the US, on Tivo, in California) that teardrop is the theme minus the vocals note for note. The links up there to various MP3 hour themes I have never heard before, but would agree, its some sort of unauthorized remix.

My guess is that in the US, the content for massive attack is licensed to whomever it needs to be licensed to - the distribution rights for massive attack in the US - and they play them here. Those other themes are really not very good.

Thanks for the help and the fun. By the way, you know that dubbing and subtitles is a huge conflict too? Many things and ideas change because that, and it's a little dificult to find these well made. Sooo, isn't only the music of HMD a cause of trouble. The understanding of the phrases, are a problem too. And not speak about the varied times of the subtitle formats, this is pure madness!

By the way, I'm cuban, and for the problems of the american blockade we barely watch few episodes, and not in order, so we must to steal it from the transmissions or "get'em" from our brothers of the inet, due to this we got them from diferent countries and we don't have any special or favorite main theme. All of them are good.

Bye, I'll read this later

PS:Cuba is Fidel C's country.

Hey just thought I'd say that the "full-length" track at http://home.pacific.net.au/~ranger1/ isn't a legtimate version, someone has spliced it together from the two alternative titles/US credits and the Teardrop song.

I've read through all the posts, and I still haven't found the right answer to my question! I'd like to know what the song is that plays during the ending (rolling) credits of House (USA)? Anyone who has the season dvd collection should know what I'm talking about. It starts out with a chill beat, then I believe a piano chimes in... Anyway, it's not Jakatta or Massive Attack, trust me, I looked!!! Anyone who could help would be a lifesaver b/c I can't get that song out of my head! haha Thanks! ;)

Posted by: Alicia on January 11, 2007 05:56 PM

I have listened to all the major themes listed here. I don't know if it has been cleared up yet but here's how the themes are in the US.
http://www.kfcplainfield.com/sound/housemd.mp3--- Opening title in US
http://www.nos.net.nz/housetheme.mp3---An edit of above title, I am no music genius, but it is the "Left hand" piano part. Take out the guitar and right hand piano part from above title and you've got this one
http://www.nos.net.nz/HouseSeason2Theme.mp3---ending credits title. Seems to my ear to be written in the same key, cousin to title # 2

Just trying to help.

Thanks

Alright...got it to play, and so yes, that is the ending credits theme. I wonder...is that a song, or just a clip put together specifically for that 30 seconds of credits? If it is a song, can anyone tell me the artist and title?

Posted by: Alicia on January 17, 2007 02:51 PM

The end credits theme for House in New Zealand appears to be composed by Jon Ehrlich and Jason Derlatka. It is presumably composed specifically for the show, although the fact that there is another clip with a slightly different arrangement which pops up sometimes could mean that they are all part of a longer piece.
We'd really love to know where that longer piece is . . .

Does anyone have the names of the all the piano solos? They're not on any of the soundtracks I've listened too, and the piano themes are my favorite part! Thanks.

I watched today's episode: today being: 2 13 07. I would love to know what the song was, played at the ending of the show. With the words: HIT THE GROUND... that's all I could make out. If anyone out there know's please e mail me.
Thanks so much

guys, that jakkata song is what is played in the credits and in the background at certain scenes.
andddd from wikipedia...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_(TV_series)

Theme music
The opening theme is "Teardrop" by Massive Attack. "Teardrop" itself does have lyrics, sung by guest vocalist Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins; however, the version used in the opening credits uses only the beginning and ending sections, which are solely instrumental. Due to rights and licensing issues this music is not used for the show in South Africa, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland (German version), Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Czech Republic, Denmark, Australia, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Hungary, Latin America, Greece, Hong Kong, and Turkey. In those countries, a piece of music named "House"(ending theme), composed by Scott Donaldson and Richard Nolan, is used, which was written specifically for the show. With the second season, this was replaced with a similar, but modified, track. The parodic British television show Dead Ringers, which sometimes spoofs House, uses "Teardrop" for the spoof's opening theme. "Teardrop" is also used in the Season 2 Region 2 and Region 4 release, replacing the "House" theme at the beginning of the episode.

The Teardrop song is the best though, unfortunately i can't find an instrumental version of it anywhere and i know there is one because they played the whole song instrumental on Prison Break Season 1 Episode 20

If anyone has this version please post up a link.

damn! House MD 2x13 [Skin Deep], does anyone know the ending song? =S thank ya

Posted by: kabe on September 25, 2007 05:50 PM

Huh. So there are three completely different theme songs for House. My favourite is the one on the opening credits of the New Zealand season 1 DVD, and I've been looking for a way to get a good quality version for AGES! So thanks for that.

I've encountered all of these themes in NZ, but I can't remember which was where except that one on the season 1 DVD (www.nos.net.nz.housetheme.mp3). I think they played the Teardrop version on TV for season 3 here. That means the remaining one must be on the DVD (NZ) for season 2 (and maybe also 3).

Anyway, they're all pretty good, and the main thing is that we can get the mp3 for each of them right here, which is great! So cheers.

http://www.have-dog.com/house/ tells you the songs played during the House episodes

Posted by: Lewis Spragg on October 12, 2007 08:18 AM

Okay, so. Both the season 1 ending theme, and the season 2 ending theme are the same file format. But the season 2 ending theme saves on my itunes just fine, where as the other one, is, well. broken. I cannot play it. This bothers me, seeing as how I prefer the season 1 theme.

Please help me fix this. :D

House totally totally kicks ass... I'd like him to be my doc. Or hubby whatever ;)
I always thought that 'Dead Already' is the theme song... But I'm from Croatia, so maybe our version has it that way.

Interesting that some of the predictions made in the beginning of this post are beginning to be realized. We have learned that House is a medication "junkie"This effectively nullifies his brilliance in a sense as we "see" that he is a "pathetic", lonely, medicated individual. Thus we can look at his sarcastic wit as a mere by product of his weakness. It wouldn't be politically correct if he didn't have some defect in his personality. The viewing public can now look down at him and feel sorry him while dismissing the intelligence of the character as actually flawed. Interesting how society has to make sure everyone has a fault. Especially those we might otherwise admire. If the character doesn't change his ways and become more "compassionate" and politically correct we can rest assured he will meet some fate that will be justified through his flaw. The shame of it is we aren't allowed to look at he character as a briliant man who finds most people ridiculously simple but rather as a character who hasn't developed himself enough to recognize the great qualities in those around him beyond a selfish use. It will be interesting to see where the show leads us. Hugh Laurie is brilliant as House and the supporting cast are all great as well. It won't work if he must become a whining milksop though. Pray the show ends before that ever happens.

Hell I'll Be D**med! Shows what a LOT of searching will get you. I found a 3.33 minute instrumental version of the U.S. Opening theme song to House M.D. If anyone doubts me, im uploading it to my project playlist on my myspace, which will be at the bottom of my post. Now, if anyone would like a copy of the song, email me or message me on myspace, I will give you the link. I was damned and determined to find a version that wasnt just 30 seconds, and low and behold, I did. NOW, I will warn you, the song IN FACT IS Teardrop by Massive attack, but its an instrumental remix of the begining and ending of the song. Most of you know that by now, but putting it in here for those who dont. The version I found is an remixed version that mixes the non vocal audio, its great quality, and sounds PHENOMINAL!!! Message me asap for the link of file. And if you just want to listen to it, check out my playlist on the myspace. Take care, fellow Gregory House fanatics!
